LAYANAN POS DAN TELEGRAF KEDIRI (1830-1930)

In the establishment of communication and distribution in the Kediri Residency between 1830 and 1930, the post office served as the primary institution responsible for carrying out these functions. It was tasked with providing delivery services, including receiving, collecting, sorting, transmitting, and delivering letters and postal packages. The study aims to examine the role of the post office in administrative communication, economic connections, as well as disaster management, and socio-economic functions. It explores the origins of the post office, and the routes it utilized, and the development of its technology. This research adopts historical methods, including heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that the post office was established in the Kediri
Residentie, alongside Madiun Residentie in 1830. The Kediri post office operated along the southern postal line of Java which was built twenty years after the construction of the Groote Postweg on the northern route of Java in 1809. By the end of 1859, Kediri had become one of 28 regions connected to the telegraph network.
